Artificial General Intelligence
Computer scientists commonly call AI (artificial intelligence) machines capable of simulating human intelligence. Yet defining “intelligence” remains problematic, and attempts at doing so often veer into conversations about social status, power dynamics, and class relations.
AI can often be traced to an early summer conference hosted by Dartmouth College and organized by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in 1956. At this gathering, 10 luminaries, including Marvin Minsky, Oliver Selfridge, and John McCarthy, came together. McCarthy coined the term artificial intelligence at this conference; others worked on various aspects of AI, such as chess-playing programs or language translation services.

Machine learning
